For your first assay signment, you will be working on creating either a narrative or descriptive essay Students’ options for either essay are listed below.
Option 1: Narration involves telling story through a description of events. Students may select one of the possible topics below in order to write a narrative essay
1) Write an acount of one of these “firsts” your first serious argument with your parents; your first experience with physical violence of danger, your first extended stay away from home; your first encounter with someone whose culture was very different from your own; or your first experience with the serious illness or death of a close friend or relative. Make sure your essay includes a thesis statement your narrative can support
2) Write a narrative about a time when you were an outsider, isolated because of social,
intellectual, or thic differences between you and others, Did you resolve the problems your isolation created? Explain.
If students need assistance with a narrative essay, they can look to their Rhetoric and Compositions textbook (pes 117-1219
Option 2: Description uses the five senses (e. sight, hearing, taste, touch, and smell) in order to tell readers about a person, place, or thing. Students may select one of the possible topics below in order to write a descriptie essay
1) Choose a character from a book, movie, or video game who you think is interesting Write a descriptive essay conveying what makes this character so special
2) Describe your neighborhood to a visitor who knows nothing about it include as much specific detail as you can
3) Write an essay describing an especially frightening horror film. What specific sights and sounds make this film so horrifying? Include a thesis statement assessing the film’s success as a horror fm (Be careful not to simply summarize the plot of the fim.)

Students wis only select ONE essay topic from ONE type of essay. Students must choose esther one topic from the narration section of one topic from the description section. NOTE: Students are not allowed to use any outside sources on their essays (L.e. no Internet sources, etc.). Essays should follow MLA format and be between 2-3 pages in length (typed, double spaced, Times New Roman 12 pt font).
