14 min read

Dr. Rudi’s Rooftop Brewing Co is one of the most flourishing prestigious restaurants with exceptional hospitality services situated at level 2 of Auckland’s Viaduct harbor along Hobson and Cnr Quay streets. It possesses the Viaduct harbor’s finest view with a cool and luxurious atmosphere which makes it an inevitable place for adventurers in Auckland. Apart from different brands of drinks, it is a favorite place for socializing, having meals, playing and watching games.  Dr. Rudi’s Rooftop brewery was formerly identified as Super Alpha. Later on, it was named Dr. Rudi’s rooftop brewery and bar which was the name of the inventor who was a hop Scientist (Murphy, L. 2008). The premise is owned by three alluring men, Andrew Roborgh, Callum o’ Brien, and Kristian Lloyd. The concerns of this essay are to give a report based analysis of my personal experience of Dr. Rudi’s Rooftop Brewing Co.

Brewery section #

My friends and I were privileged to take a tour of Dr. Rudi’s brewery and bar that gave us credible and incomparable experiences in the process of conducting my analysis. We confronted the head of the brewery by the name Alex Biedermann who took us around the brewery. Through a series of interviews with Alex Biedermann, I was able to establish the concept and style of operations in the brewery. The findings were; the space for executing brewery job operations was significantly small upon which Alex pursued his daily incredible work. The bar produces purely own made beers and they sell a quite variety of locally crafted brews.

Tab beer taste #

Firstly, we had a taste of one of the brands known as Berliner Weisser from the tap which was an astonishing refreshing drink despite it being hot. Alex had to demonstrate how they make impressive liqueur flavors by using Woodruff liqueur as an example. Addition of a shot of Berliner Weisser liqueur in a glass of Woodruff Liqueur, the results gives a change in flavor profile which was so unique. The actual liqueur liquor flavor was not altered. It just retained its taste but the color of the actual liquor became dull a little bit.  According to Alex, Woodruff is a liqueur made from woodruff plant, it is among the fast selling brands being sold in Dr. Rudi’s rooftop brewery.

Taste analysis of the tap beers #

We had a paddle tasting of a quite range of Rudi’s core beers. For instance, Dutch Courage IPA, Bright Light Pale Ale, Lady Louise Lager and Rudi’s prominent known drink Pilsner. The Lady Louise Lager drink appears golden and it is the most available lager since people use it as an introduction to other brands. Its composition style is inclined to Helles style of production. The beer is named after Dr. Rudi’s mother known as Louise. However, it is the top most selling beer on tap at Dr. Rudi’s rooftop brewery. Pilsner is one my friend’s favorite drink and one of the Dr. Rudi’s most entitled drink composed of Dr. Rudi’s hops having features of New Zealand. Bright Light Pale Ale is Germany hopped with flavors from fruits which taste incredibly sweet almost becoming my favorite drink. it is made from light malts with plenty of wheat malt making it more interesting. Dutch Courage IPA was my pick which was hopped with Amarillo and Simcoe hops for stonefruit and piney flavor profile (Hume, P., Ikeda, E., McGeown, J., & Le Flao, E. 2018). The drink had a balanced level of bitterness with an ascetic finish which has been the trend of its production over a couple of years. The beers generally were of a different dimension of production with different integrated hops in the drinks making Rudi’s best beverages on sale. The table gives an example of beer’s prices sold at Dr. Rudi’s Rooftop Brewing Co.

Dr. Rudi’s Rooftop Brewing Co gives a piece of live entertainment music composed of blues and rock live bands with a group of live performing DJs as from Wednesday to Sunday. The music is meant to entertain customers as they enjoy their beer and also to attract customers. A little music and beer make a perfect combination for the customers to keep coming to the same place for their refreshments. However, certain places are quiet from music or any form of, especially at the Verdict harbor. This is mainly to give a sensation of peaceful and luxuriant conditions that most elderly people prefer having when having their beer. According to my experience, I enjoyed the cool pianist player playing at the background, made the atmosphere feel so amazing.

Meals #

We were offered with splendid Dr. Rudi’s bar snacks, fries, Jalepeno poppers, my favorite pizzas that were two-foot-long, pork, funnel and cream cheese not forgetting the chicken. The taste of the food was so excellent than other meals I have ever tasted in the past. Bar pizza was of different great taste that I had not ever experienced on. Jalepeno poppers were so spicy and awesome.

Meal serving is scheduled at different times. For instance, coffee and snacks are served during morning hours ranging from 07:00a.m-11;00 a.m.  Then the bar opens at 11:00 a.m then goes up to the late hours of the night. this schedule runs throughout the week. On interviewing one of the customers the reason why they could prefer Dr.Rudi’s and not any other place. The response was Dr. Rudi’s Rooftop Brewery and bar is magnificent in term of their hostility services and their beers are the best ever encountered in the world. In addition, the restaurant and bar have been existing for a long time and there has been a good relationship between the firm’s employees and the customers.

Dr. Rudi’s Rooftop Brewery has consistently had an increase in the number of customers over the last decade. This was due to the adjustments done from the managerial aspect concerning the welfare of people in the premise. Another factor that could have led to a significant increase in the number of customers in the habit of customers sharing their experiences over the social media as being the best place to take an adventure on (Adamietz, J. 2012). Despite the increased number of visitors, Dr. Rudi’s Rooftop Bar has enough accommodation for every customer up to a certain limit. The average maximum number the premise can host at a time can exceed 200 and at most 350. This is unique because most customers prefer personal spaces based on their interest in coming to visit the place. The employees have hospitality skills with very high qualifications giving the advantage of having competent personnel to execute the duties and obligations of the brewery and the bar. Rate of employee turnover is very low approximated to be 1%. This is an indication that Dr. Rudi’s Rooftop Brewing Co is a competitive place for seeking an employment opportunity. The salary scale of employees is relatively higher as compared to the neighboring hospitality firms. coordination among employees is amazing and group effort is embraced whereby each and every employee work towards satisfying every customer who visits the place (Gnoth, J., Andreu, L., & Currás-Pérez, R. 2013). About the ethics used in the premise are of high standards as from the reception of customers and time spent by customers in the premise. This kind of exclusive characteristics in the way employees carries their activities make the customer crave for coming and have another experience of the same.

The space on the rooftop is 800 square meters providing enough room for afternoon drinks and late evening beautiful and relaxing view of the water and neighboring structures. I had an experience of the same by taking my pizzas which were so yummy and delicious. Later in the evening, I and my friends tasted the seafood which made as salvation has it was placed on the table especially the jealousy. Alongside the food, there was a serving of rosemary salt, fruits, water juice and food instruments that we were to use to eat the food. However, there are two things that were enticing as we went up to the escalators. The two bowling alleys that were free to sport on. And secondly the amazing view from the rooftop that summarizes the beauty of Auckland (Wong, N. A., McClary, D., & Sewell, M. A. 2011). the boats on the waters were calm with a slightly gentle smooth breeze blowing across the rooftop. Someone could justify that this the best and most amazing view ever seen.

Security #

In terms of security, Dr. Rudi’s Rooftop Brewing Co has a good number of security officers as from the receptions and within the premise, who keep the environment secured 24/7. Being a brewery and bar, there are high chances of customers misconduct, security officers are situated more at the bar region. All the policies from the government concerning brewing and alcohol consumption are maintained perfectly. For example, any person at the age below 18, is not given a chance to the bar section or offered a beer.

The only challenge ever encountered at Dr. Rudi’s Rooftop Brewing Co by customers is a missing a table due to the high number of customers who want to be given services. Especially the rooftop because is the favorite for each and every customer who goes to just have the breeze. At some occasions, the premise becomes too busy on Thursdays and a climax of a huge number of customers on Friday (Wong, N. A., McClary, D., & Sewell, M. A. 2011). This can be limiting factor to find a good place to seat. Despite the challenge, people always consider the services and the kind of quality affordable locally crafted beers available at Dr. Rudi’s Rooftop Brewing Co.

Consequently, this may open more opportunities for maximizing their profits and also marketing their brends of beer across various regions.  In addition, the management should oversee the current situation of customers missing tables. This problem needs urgent solution by handling it more proficiently to avoid customers getting into other competitive restaurants.

Secondly, Dr. Rudi’s Rooftop Brewing Co has high demand for hospitality services, therefore, the relevant management authority or shareholders should look forward to increase the human resouce. The reason behind this proposal is in connection with the remarkable increase number of customers.

There has been some situations where customers have been complaining about declining food quality overtime. This is an indication of luxity in executing  hospitality services by a group of employees. It is therefore a responsibility of the managerial sector to keep monitoring the employees job performance and if possible offer in-service training. The purpose for in-service training is to equip the employees with more knowledge and skills that can enhance their ability to handle various hospitlity services. In addition, training helps the employees to grow and develop magnificent characteristics that are inclined towards effective handling of customers and well as handling kitchen matters.
