From the research you have done to complete your own journal article reviews and outline earlier this quarter, elaborate on an active or emerging multi-cultural and/or difficult contemporary interpersonal or intergroup conflict problem. Your research about the conflict you chose does not need to be exhaustive, but you need to understand and present an overview to include information about the parties, relationships, issues, and source of the conflict in order to further analyze the case using the prompts below. Expand your analysis to incorporate relevant theoretical materials from earlier this quarter.
After providing a brief and researched overview of a conflict in the news, analyze it using materials related to the following prompts. Cite news stories and use them to discuss the conflict you are writing about. These prompts are not exhaustive, and you may choose to include additional course materials to inform your analysis:
What makes this a multi-cultural and/or difficult conflict? Is it seemingly intractable? Explain.
How have the values underlying constructive conflict resolution including reciprocity, equality, community, fallibility and nonviolence been violated or compromised in this conflict?
How do the cooperation and competition orientations of stakeholders play into the escalation or de-escalation of this conflict?
Is the conflict constructive, destructive, or pathological and what might help point a destructive or pathological conflict in a more positive and less destructive direction?
What role does communication and language play?
Notice and account for justice, trust, power, and human rights issues.
What judgmental biases, emotions, and personal differences including gender are displayed and what impact do they have?
How is the conflict perceived and how does it affect the surrounding climate and culture?
What models of practice or decision-making models are being employed or might be tried to effectively intervene in this conflict?
What if any constructive lessons can be learned and transferred from similar conflicts including conflicts you have faced or learned about through research or the media?
What specific theories are most salient here to explain the content, escalation and de-escalation of this conflict? Why?
How might conflict management research and training help inform interventions for this or future, similar conflict situations?
How does creativity, change, and hope factor into this conflict?
Cite and reference a minimum of ten relevant scholarly outside sources and text chapters. You should list these in your outline assignment.
Include a cover page (page 1), abstract (page 2) and minimum of 5 pages of content in the body of the paper. Conclude the paper with a reference page of 10 or more alphabetized, diverse, and scholarly researched articles, journals. or other publications that you have used and properly cited. A reference page and annotated bibliography are different. Here, your reference page should build from researched materials included in your annotated bibliography. Resources included in your reference page must be cited in your paper and must be edited from your annotated bibliography to remove annotation. Your reference page must also include properly cited individual chapters from the course text. Do not cite encyclopedias, dictionaries, or web-based opinion pieces or blogs that cannot be substantiated.
