Here are some guidelines for you when writing this essay:
Step 1. Brainstorm for pros and cons of your topic. Think carefully and do some research on your topic, and then take your position by deciding which side you agree with.
Step 2. Choose two or three major arguments (reasons) from your Pros or Cons list. Do some research to find the support (evidence) you will need to persuade the reader that your position is right. Support each point of your arguments with facts, examples, reasons, anecdotes, quotations, or a combination of thereof while rebutting each opposing view by pointing out that your opponent’s opinions are not right. Remember to properly cite the sources of all borrowed information and document them appropriately in the Works Cited page.
Step 3. Make an outline using the guided one in this chapter. Write the first draft, following the guideline from Chapter 8.
Step 4. This step is optional. After completing the first draft, exchange your paper with a classmate for feedback, using the Peer Review on page 335.
Step 4. Use the Writer Self-check worksheet 8 on page 336 to revise and edit your essay as necessary.
Step 5. Submit your draft by May 11 for my comments – if you like. I will return your draft with my comments on 13.
Step 6. After revising and editing your essay for spelling, punctuation, grammar errors based on my comments, submit your final draft, together with the outline, via email or Blackboard by May 16, 2021.
The essay is worth 100 points. The paper should be typed (double-spaced), using MLA style. Late papers will be lowered one letter grade.
